  Rules for the organization of personalized training in the branches of the autonomous organization of education “Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools” in experimental mode

 

  1. General Provisions

 

  1. The rules for organizing personalized education in the branches of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools of the autonomous educational organization Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools (hereinafter – AEO) in an experimental mode (hereinafter – the Rules) determine the procedure for organizing personalized education in the branches of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools of the AEO (hereinafter – Schools), the main subject of which is educational activity.
  2. These Rules are developed in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On the status of Nazarbayev University”, “Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools” and “Nazarbayev Fund”, the AEO Charter.
  3. The following basic concepts are used in these Rules:

1) Personalized learning is an educational model in which programs, teaching methods and academic strategies are focused on the individual needs, interests and socio-cultural background of the student.

2) Blended learning is a form of organization of the educational process, which involves the integration of technologies for delivering certain content to students, combines training with the participation of a teacher (face to face) with distance learning, and involves elements of self-control by students of the path, time, place and pace of learning.

3) Distance learning is a form of acquiring knowledge and skills that combines various elements of online and offline activity.

4) Online learning is a method of acquiring knowledge and acquiring skills using the Internet in real time.

5) An individual educational route is a way of realizing a student’s personal potential, developing his abilities according to an individual plan, designed for a specific student and having specific goals that must be realized within a specified time frame.

6) Free hours are the student’s free time from the main educational activities, formed due to the accelerated mastering of the curriculum during and / or by the end of a quarter of the academic year as part of training on an individual educational route.

7) Quiet zone – a quiet working study space (place) in the library, recreation, greenhouse, classrooms with access to a computer / laptop, printer, scanner, Internet, designed for individual / pair / group work, distance learning, online learning, preparation for students.

8) School consultation on personalized learning is a commission that is formed to select (transfer) students to personalized education to the NIS-Program / International Baccalaureate program and monitor its implementation, which may include subject teachers, tutors, psychologist, medical worker, vice principals, principal of the school.

 

  1. Organization of personalized training

 

  1. Personalized training will be carried out in two directions:
  • according to the educational program of grades 8, 9, 10, providing for the mastering of programs of three grades in 2 years (hereinafter – the Program). In this direction, students can study from grade 8 (no later than 20 (twenty) working days from the start of the current academic year). Students in accordance with the Program study for 2 academic years and compulsorily fulfill the requirements of the curriculum (laboratory, practical, design and other work, writing essays). Upon completion of the second year of study under the Program, students take an external summative assessment (hereinafter – Summative Assessment) / final certification for the course of the basic school. For a group / class, a separate and / or individual schedule of training sessions is drawn up, a schedule for passing summative assessment for a section (hereinafter – Summative assessment for a section) / constant assessment for a unit and summative assessment for a quarter (hereinafter – SAQ;

2) for the study of individual subjects along an individual educational route (hereinafter referred to as the Route), which provides for training both with acceleration and without acceleration. Training along the Route is provided for students in grades 8-12.

There are two options for Route training:

– students master the curriculum in less time, however, students enrolled in the NIS-Program / International Baccalaureate programs (basic school subjects; subjects “Kazakh language”, “Russian language”, “History of Kazakhstan” high school) (hereinafter – Grade) complete academic quarters / semester / academic year perform SAS / formative assessment, SAQ / ascertain assessment together with the class. Studying according to this option, students have free hours in the middle or throughout all quarters / semesters / academic year;

– Students master the curriculum in less time, then complete SAS / formative assessment for high school, SAQ / ascertaining assessment for primary and high school on a separate schedule and complete academic quarters / semester / academic year before Class. Studying according to this option, students have free hours at the end of a quarter / semester / academic year.

Students can use their free hours in the first and second options to prepare for olympiads and scientific competitions, attend additional courses, hobby classes, work on improving the level of knowledge or to eliminate “gaps” in knowledge in certain subjects, etc.

Upon completion of primary and high school along the Route, students take a SA/Final Assessment with the Class.

Students study in accordance with curricula drawn up independently by subject teachers and approved at meetings of Methodological Associations of Schools (hereinafter – the Curriculum), and without fail fulfill their requirements (laboratory, practical, design and other works, essays).

When organizing training along the Route, it is recommended to use different forms of training, such as online, distance, mixed, which imply classroom-lesson, independent, pair, group, individual work with the use of ICT.

  1. Schools may organize elective courses and study circles based on the student’s workload.
  2. For effective teaching of students, Schools should organize individual / independent /pair /group teaching in the classroom, laboratories, quiet areas of the school, individual consultations with the teacher.

 

  1. Assessment of educational achievements of students
  1. Determination of the level of training of students enrolled in personalized learning at each stage of the educational process, and the analysis of students ‘achievement of learning goals and expected learning outcomes in accordance with the curriculum is carried out according to the system of criteria-based assessment of students’ academic achievements.
  2. Students perform SAS / Formative Assessment for High School and SAQ / Ascertaining Assessment for primary and high school, the content of which covers the curriculum material for the subject for the corresponding quarter / semester.
  3. Development of test specifications for SAQ is carried out by the branch “Center for Pedagogical Measurements” AEO.
  4. The development of SAS/formative assessment for high school and SAQ/ ascertaining assessment for primary and high school is carried out by the Schools independently.
  5. In subjects where the SA is held in the fourth quarter, the SAQ is not held.
  6. The results of educational achievements of students are regularly displayed in an electronic journal.
  7. Students who have successfully mastered the content of the curriculum of personalized education, by the decision of the Pedagogical Council of the Intellectual Schools, are transferred to the second year of study.
  8. Students who complete the first year of study and have an annual grade of “5” in all subjects are awarded a Certificate of Commendation based on the decision of the Pedagogical Council.
  9. Exemption of students for health reasons from physical education lessons does not affect their transfer.
  10. Upon completion of the course for the main school, and subject to the full assimilation of the personalized learning curriculum in accordance with the number of hours of the Model Curriculum, students pass the SA/ final certification on examination materials developed by an external organization in relation to Schools for students under the NIS educational program. Program, and developed by the School for students under the International Baccalaureate program in the framework of the current legal acts on assessment.
  11. Annual grades and final grades in the subjects of personalized education are entered in the certificate of graduation from basic school.
  12. Students who graduated from basic school, passed external assessment and have annual and final marks of “5” in all subjects during their studies, are issued a certificate of graduation from basic school with honors.
  13. The procedure for issuing quarter and annual grades in subjects for which SA is not carried out for students of the NIS-Program educational program:

– the fourth grade is set based on the results of COP and SOC in a percentage ratio of 50% to 50%. The fourth grade in the subject “Physical culture” is set on the basis of the results of the SAS;

– the annual score is set on the basis of the results for the four quarters of the SAS and SAQ in a percentage ratio of 50% to 50%, respectively.

19-1. The procedure for issuing semester and annual grades in a basic school in subjects for which final certification is not carried out for students of the International Baccalaureate program:

– the semester grade is given according to the results of the ascertaining assessment;

– the annual grade is set based on the results of 1 and 2 semesters in a percentage ratio of 40% to 60%, respectively.

19-2) The procedure for setting semester and annual grades in high school in subjects for which final certification is not carried out for students of the International Baccalaureate program:

– the semester grade is set according to the results of the formative and ascertaining assessment in a percentage ratio of 50% to 50%;

– the annual grade is set based on the results of 1 and 2 semesters in a percentage ratio of 40% to 60%, respectively.

  1. The procedure for issuing quarter and annual grades in subjects for students of the NIS-Program educational program for which SA is carried out:

– the quarter grade for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd quarters includes the results of SAS and SAQ in a percentage ratio of 50% to 50%. 4th quarter includes SAS results – 100%, respectively;

– the annual estimate includes the results of the SAS 1, 2, 3, 4 quarters and the SAQ 1, 2, 3 quarters in a percentage ratio of 50% to 50%, respectively;

– the final grade in the subjects includes the mean of the quarter grades and the assessment of external assessment (on a five-point scale) in a percentage ratio of 70% to 30%, respectively. The final grade is rounded to the nearest integer.

20-1. The procedure for setting semester and annual grades in a basic school in subjects for which the final certification is carried out for students of the International Baccalaureate program:

– the semester grade is given according to the results of the ascertaining assessment of 1 and 2 semesters;

– the annual grade is set based on the results of 1 and 2 semesters in a percentage ratio of 40% to 60%, respectively;

– the final grade in subjects is set on a 7-point scale based on the results of exam grades and annual grades in a percentage ratio of 50% to 50%, respectively.

20-2. The procedure for setting semester and annual grades in high school in subjects for which the final certification is carried out for students of the International Baccalaureate program:

– the semester grade is set according to the results of the formative and ascertaining assessment in a percentage ratio of 50% to 50%;

– the annual grade is set based on the results of 1 and 2 semesters in a percentage ratio of 40% to 60%, respectively;

– the final grade in subjects is set on a 7-point scale based on the results of exam grades and annual grades in a percentage ratio of 50% to 50%, respectively.

  1. When transferring students from a personalized training program to training according to the NIS-Program / International Baccalaureate educational program, assessment is carried out in the manner specified in clauses 19, 19-1, 19-2, 20, 20-1, 20-2 of these Rules.

 

  1. Selection of students

 

  1. When selecting students for personalized training, by order of the School Principal, a school council for personalized training (hereinafter referred to as SCPT) is created, and persons responsible for organizing the selection procedure, collecting and preparing the necessary documents for students are determined.
  2. Students wishing to study in the Program must meet the following requirements:

1) students must complete 7th grade or study in 8th grade;

2) the annual grades in all subjects upon completion of the 7th grade must be “5” and “4”, while the number of grades “4” should be no more than three / “6”, “7” for students of the International Baccalaureate program;

3) the results of the competitive selection of candidates for training in 7 grades of Schools (hereinafter referred to as CS) under the section “Quantitative characteristics” must be at least 50%;

4) the results of the latest monitoring of educational achievements of students in mathematics and language subjects should be presented by basic, good and high levels of educational achievements in the context of sections of the curriculum and skills of speech activity.

  1. Students wishing to study along the Route must meet the following requirements:

1) students must study in grades 8-12;

2) grades in the subjects chosen by students for the last two quarters must be “5” for students of the educational program NIS-Programme;

2-1) semester, annual marks for the previous academic year and the last semester of the current academic year should be “6”, “7” for students of the International Baccalaureate program;

3) CS results in the section “Quantitative characteristics” must be at least 50%;

4) the results of the latest monitoring of students’ academic achievements in mathematics and language subjects should be presented by basic, good and high levels of educational achievements in the context of sections of the curriculum and speech skills, if students choose these subjects.

Students can choose the subject (s) from the list for training along the Route, according to appendices 2 / 2-1 to these Rules.

  1. When selecting candidates for personalized training, SCPT considers the compliance of students with all the requirements of paragraph 23 or 24 of these Rules, as well as the following documents, results and features:

1) statement of parents / legal representatives in the form in accordance with Appendix 1 to these Rules;

2) рекомендации:

– of teachers on profile (mathematics, physics, computer science, chemistry, biology, geography) and language subjects, a curator, psychologist, school health worker for training according to the Program;

– of teachers on subjects (chosen by students), curator, psychologist, school health worker for teaching along the Route;

3) CS results in mathematics and language subjects;

4 individual achievements of students in studies, sports, scientific competitions, olympiads;

5) individual characteristics of the development of students (physical health, psychological state, predisposition to more successful study of certain subjects, etc.).

After the application is submitted by the parents / legal representatives, the representatives of the SCPT conduct a conversation with the students and the parents / legal representatives.

  1. Based on the results of the SCPT meeting, a protocol with recommendations is drawn up.
  2. Based on the protocol with the recommendations of the SCPT, the Pedagogical Council of the School decides on the possibility or impossibility of transferring the student to personalized training.

 

  1. Transfer of the student

 

  1. Transfer of a student to the educational program NIS-Programme/ International Baccalaureate is carried out for the following reasons:

1) the student’s lack of desire (statement of parents / legal representatives) to study on personalized training;

2) deterioration of the physical health, psychological state of the student;

3) low academic performance and quality of knowledge of the student at the end of the quarter / semester:

–        the presence of three or more marks “3” or one or more marks “2” from the student under the Program;

–        the presence of the assessment (s) “3” and / or “2” in the selected subjects from the student along the Route.

  1. Based on the results of the meeting of the SCPT, a protocol with recommendations is drawn up.
  2. Based on the protocol with the recommendations of the SCPT, the Pedagogical Council decides on the need to transfer the student to the educational program of the NIS-Programme / International Baccalaureate.
  3. During the academic year, the student can be transferred from the educational program of the NIS-Programme/International Baccalaureate to training along the Route and vice versa 1 (one) time per academic year.
  4. During the academic year, a student cannot be transferred from the NIS-Programme/ International Baccalaureate educational program to study under the Program, with the exception of subparagraph 1 of paragraph 4 of these Rules.
  5. Reporting

 

  1. During the academic year, Schools monitor, analyze the implementation and implementation of personalized learning. At the end of each quarter, the results of monitoring and analysis are sent to the AEO to assess the quality of the educational process.

 

  1. Rights and obligations

 

  1. Schools have the right to independently decide on the implementation of personalized learning and choose the direction of study.
  2. Schools are obliged to independently develop and test the mechanisms for organizing personalized learning, based on their capabilities (the presence of classrooms, including laboratories, the workload of teachers, the lesson schedule, the number of students, etc.), the individual characteristics and workload of students, and etc.
  3. In the event of the introduction of personalized learning in the School (s), the student has the right to:

1) make a decision on the transition to personalized training;

2) choose the subject (s) for the study of individual subjects along the Route from the list in accordance with Appendices 2 or 2-1 to these Rules;

3) attend extra classes and additional classes;

4) engage in scientific projects;

5) participate in olympiads and competitions;

6) participate in extracurricular and extracurricular activities;

7) participate in the Summer School.

  1. In the event of a transition to personalized learning, the student is obliged to:

1) study according to the Program or Curriculum and comply with all relevant requirements;

2) attend laboratory, practical classes provided for by the Program, Curricula, as well as elective courses and / or circle work;

3) timely fulfill all the tasks of teachers;

4) timely pass SAS/ formative assessment in high school, SAQ/ ascertaining assessment – in primary and high school, external assessment / final attestation.

 

  1. Responsibility
  2. The Principal is responsible for:

1) the valid selection of students for personalized learning;

2) ensuring the safety of confidential data about students (personal data, physical and psychological health / condition, individual developmental characteristics, etc.);

3) organizing the adoption and implementation of personalized training.
