NIS students held a volunteer clean-up day in the village of Akhmet

Students from NIS International Baccalaureate School cleaned up the gardens and provided assistance to lonely pensioners and labor veterans as part of the Service to the Community project in the village of Akhmet, Karaganda Region.

Despite the remoteness of the village, about 170 students and about 20 teachers took an active part in this project.

– The action “service to the community” is one of the most popular projects. In six hours we tried to clean the entire area of the small village. We got the blessing of the grandparents. The fascinating trip will certainly stay in our memories for a long time,” shared NIS student Jalgas Tleumuratin.

According to the organizers, the aim of the action is to educate the younger generation of moral values, respect for elders, the formation of civic responsibility and the development of cooperation between students and teachers in group work.

The Community Service Project is an important part of the International Baccalaureate program. This project, as one of the three main components of the diploma program, started in 2013.

– In previous years, students visited Karkarala National Park (2015), Arnasay (2017), Borovoye (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019), and successfully helped local residents and the environment, and this year they visited the village of Akhmet,” said CAS coordinator Gulden Kasymova.

Rural and urban partnerships will continue. In the future we plan to exchange experiences with the school of S. Seyfullin Secondary School.
