About the subject “Modern history of  Kazakhstan” authorized in the Diploma program of the International Baccalaureate

The timeline of the national syllabus for the subject “Modern history of  Kazakhstan” under the international diploma program:

  • 2015 – the proposal of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Astana and the support of the IB on teaching the subject course “Modern history of  Kazakhstan” under the International Baccalaureate Diploma program.
  • 2015-2017 – development of the national course syllabus by teachers of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Astana with the support of international specialists (Liz Roberts, Jenny Gillett).
  • 2017 – training based on the national program.
  • 2019 – for the first time, students passed the international exam in the subject ” Modern history of Kazakhstan”.
“Modern history of  Kazakhstan” is a unique national educational course aimed at meeting the needs of students.

  • Syllabus is taught in 150 hours only at Standard Level (SL);
  • The syllabus is based on the goals and assessment criteria of the subject group “Individuals and society”;
  • The syllabus contains tasks that are linked to other SL subject groups and allow the internal comparison with them ;
  • Syllabus supports development of student profile and international mindedness;
  • Syllabus enables IB methods of learning and teaching, develops critical and conceptual thinking;
  • Helps to meet the requirements of the national educational standards and the needs of students;
  • Syllabus is effective not only as a professional orientation, but also as a part of comprehensive education.
