Summer School 2021

The lessons of the NIS summer school in Nur-Sultan are over. More than 400 students in grades 7-9 participated in the summer school, which lasted 1 week.

Summer school is a type of summer school camp that combines summer recreation and active learning in a particular subject area. The purpose of summer school is to develop language and academic skills through project, creative and play activities, and to close gaps in students’ knowledge due to distance learning.

Teachers set interesting subject day titles and were able to increase student interest in the subject. Students gave an overview of the world of movies in English, and along with social studies went on a trip around the world. In math, students were provided with helpful information and math problems on topics such as “A World of Amazing Numbers,” “Statistics”. “The Art of an Honest Lie”, “Amusing Mathematics,” etc. In addition, students improved their knowledge of their chosen subjects of Kazakh language, sciences and economics, and conducted various experiments.

Student of the 7th grade of our school Alua Sharisheva shared her opinion about summer school lessons:
– Every day there was only one subject and some interesting topics and assignments, games and group work on that subject. I thought it was interesting to meet new kids and work with them when the 7th graders were divided into several groups. I especially enjoyed the science subject. We expanded our understanding of the planets Earth and Mars and generalized what we learned through games. Overall, classes like this are very beneficial. It would be great if classes like this were held in schools now,” – says Alua.
